Artful Winter Bouquet

We’re just getting back from spending a few weeks traveling in the desert, and it’s so hard to readjust to snow and the low gray clouds hanging overhead. I’m feeling so refreshed as an artist, a business owner, a mother and a friend. It’s funny how travel and time away have that effect on me. My feet are weary and tired, but my soul feels happy and full again.

We’ve been making changes at Blomma Designs and forging into new territory. It’s scary and vulnerable, but there is something so freeing about doing what you feel passionate about and letting those doors swing wide open while others close. We typically take the winter off after the whirlwind of summer, but I had a longing to create with all of the beautiful blankets of snow we’ve had this season. I used a new technique for this bouquet that will continue to be a work in progress. It was challenging, but very worth the effort. My ingredients were fresh, dried, and some in between - as that’s exactly where we are in the seasons. We’re in that funny time of the throes of desolate winter, but things are slowly giving signals that they will come to life soon enough. That was my inspiration for this. We’re caught in that feeling of “half life” in winter when the sun starts rising earlier, it seems like birds are singing again and there’s a promise that our world will open up into spring once again……….

Alaska Destination Weddings - Meet Our Newest Project!

Erica Rose Photography

Many of you may not know this, but Matt and I actually planned our very own destination wedding in Alaska almost five years ago.  We were living in Minneapolis at the time and I wanted to follow the tradition of being married in my home state.  Little did we know that a short time later we would be back living in Alaska and running our very own wedding planning and design company!  Over the last several years our business has gone in many wonderful directions, and one of those has been the amazing opportunity to share Alaska with non-resident couples and their families as their wedding destination.

Last fall we took a small leap of faith and opened Alaska Destination Weddings.  A company geared specifically to those who don't call Alaska home, but they want to plan their elopement or wedding here.  We are particularly passionate about this, not only because of our personal experience on the subject, but because we have the ability to take our intimate approach and help our clients have an adventurous and beautiful wedding in our wonderful state.  A destination wedding has unique challenges and situations so we feel excited to cater specifically to those while welcoming more guests to this wondrous place we call home.  Our elopement packages are geared towards three things: adventure, beauty and uniqueness.  Whether that means privately chartering a plane or hiking to a remote location, we love the chance to share something so personal and one-of-a-kind with our clients!

We are still plenty busy with Blomma Designs and can't wait to take all of the lessons we've learned along the road and translate those into even more weddings in the future!  Don't worry. We're not going anywhere, we're just growing.  Please stop by and visit us at Alaska Destination Weddings, show us a little love and help us spread the word that we're here!

- Much love,

Erin & Matt

A Bohemian Elopement in September

I could go on for days about how much I love the results of this Bohemian themed styled shoot we did in Hatcher Pass.  Days!  But as with everything pretty, I think it's more fun to look, re-look and then look again to let the photos speak for themselves.  This was a day full of hauling furniture up the side of a mountain, setting up THE coolest vignettes (on the side of said mountain) and lots of laughter and creativity being shared amongst local artists and friends.  This talented group of women came together to share a vision and contribute creative talents to construct something beautiful.  Enjoy!

Mini Styled Session on Turnagain Arm

A few weeks ago we spent our Sunday hanging out with Tyler Rye Photography (all the way from George, Utah!) in a mini styled shoot.  We had big plans, but Mother Nature always has a mind of her own!  The forty mile an hour winds and rain were unexpected, but Tyler did a great job of making lemonade out of lemons with these beautiful photos.  It was so windy at Beluga Point that we had to make sure the bride didn't take flight when standing on the rocky cliffs!  It was cold, rainy, adventurous and thrilling to say the least.
