Surprise Winter Engagement in the Mountains of Alaska

Days like this day make the world seem like a beautiful place again. Often times we get so entrenched in the daily monotony that we sometimes need a gentle reminder of what really matters, and this experience speaks to that.  Relic Photographic contacted us to collaborate on a wintry themed styled shoot, and of course we jumped at the chance.  In the days following we learned it was going to be a surprise engagement and Steven had been waiting for the perfect moment to propose to Chantel.  We worked with Lynn + Lou Paper Co. and had Steven compose a love letter to Chantel that reflected on their love and the road that brought them to this day.  Mid shoot, he handed her the letter and it took just a moment for everything to sink in.  This is the best kind of raw and rugged honesty that makes me love Alaska so dearly.  And the icing on the cake, literally, was the wintry crystal cake with gold leaf details by GH Cakery.  Long story short (because these pictures really don't need words), there were lots of good feelings all around and these two beautiful people are going to spend the rest of their lives together.  It doesn't get any better than this.  Congratulations to these two souls!  We'd say you're off to a pretty good start.

Holiday Wreath Workshop with Blomma Designs

This wreath class was meant to be.  It's been a dream of mine to host a class in wreath making, but this year seemed a bit too busy with winter weddings.  Coincidentally one of our past brides (who we absolutely adore) mentioned that she would love to go to a wreath class and was sad we weren't offering any this year.  Well, considering she has a late November birthday, we decided to throw her a little private soireé in the form of a holiday wreath class!  I don't need much prodding to do any sort of holiday activity, and Debbie just so happens to share the same deep affection for the holiday season as I do.  This class was extra enjoyable as it was a close group of friends gathering both to create, learn a new skill and to celebrate a friend.  Our wreaths were comprised of Cedar, Blue Spruce, Pine, Juniper & Berried Juniper, Douglas Fir, Eucalyptus Pods, foraged Pine Cones, Pheasant Feathers and Spiral Eucalyptus.  Our studio smelled so wonderful with all of the greens.  That coupled with the ambiance of a cozy evening, Christmas tunes and some bubbly made this a wonderful night!  Happy Birthday to you Debbie!  Thank you to all of the ladies who came out and made this class such a fun experience.

Two Vegan Chicken Farmers and Lots of Love

Kelsey and Tom came to me at the beginning stages of their wedding planning process looking for guidance in both planning and design.  It was apparent from the first meeting that these are two people who put heart and soul into all of their thoughts and actions.  They truly wanted to incorporate a reflection of themselves into their day and create a warm sense of community and love at their wedding.  One way to describe them would be vegan chicken farmers!  Yes, they are vegan, and yes, they keep chickens.  The entire meal was deliciously vegan. It was very important to them that they shared this aspect of their lives with their guests.  No detail was left untouched and even the hot cocoa and marshmallows were vegan!  Their chickens and sweet puppy Tikishla are an important part of their family unit, so they were incorporated into all of the details as well.  From Tom walking down the aisle with Tikishla, to the chicken emblems on their stationary, to all of the chicken feathers incorporated into their floral, this evening was as unique and beautiful as one could hope!

Because we were able to seat everyone at one table and serve a family style meal, the atmosphere encouraged conversation, laughter and genuine enjoyment from everyone.  Something that really stuck out to me about this night were the speeches.  Every person that spoke discussed how both Tom and Kelsey had personally touched their lives in a positive way.  Each person was excited to see these two commit to one another and start a new chapter in their lives as husband and wife.  Love is a very powerful thing, and it was the resounding emotion felt by all that night.  To the bride and groom, thank you so much for entrusting us with your wedding!  We were honored to be a part of such an amazing group of people and getting to know you has been our pleasure.  May your love continue to grow and flourish and may your chicken flock always be bountiful!
