Two Vegan Chicken Farmers and Lots of Love

Kelsey and Tom came to me at the beginning stages of their wedding planning process looking for guidance in both planning and design.  It was apparent from the first meeting that these are two people who put heart and soul into all of their thoughts and actions.  They truly wanted to incorporate a reflection of themselves into their day and create a warm sense of community and love at their wedding.  One way to describe them would be vegan chicken farmers!  Yes, they are vegan, and yes, they keep chickens.  The entire meal was deliciously vegan. It was very important to them that they shared this aspect of their lives with their guests.  No detail was left untouched and even the hot cocoa and marshmallows were vegan!  Their chickens and sweet puppy Tikishla are an important part of their family unit, so they were incorporated into all of the details as well.  From Tom walking down the aisle with Tikishla, to the chicken emblems on their stationary, to all of the chicken feathers incorporated into their floral, this evening was as unique and beautiful as one could hope!

Because we were able to seat everyone at one table and serve a family style meal, the atmosphere encouraged conversation, laughter and genuine enjoyment from everyone.  Something that really stuck out to me about this night were the speeches.  Every person that spoke discussed how both Tom and Kelsey had personally touched their lives in a positive way.  Each person was excited to see these two commit to one another and start a new chapter in their lives as husband and wife.  Love is a very powerful thing, and it was the resounding emotion felt by all that night.  To the bride and groom, thank you so much for entrusting us with your wedding!  We were honored to be a part of such an amazing group of people and getting to know you has been our pleasure.  May your love continue to grow and flourish and may your chicken flock always be bountiful!

Happy Holidays from Blomma Designs

It's no secret that the holidays are my favorite time of year!  I love almost any winter outdoor activity as well as cozying up to a fire or wood stove with hot tea and warm slippers.  The holidays remind me of the fondest memories of childhood when I still believed in magic and the overwhelmingly happy sense of family and community that seem to be in abundance at this time of year.  I love to entertain and find reasons to dress up my table for an intimate meal.  I insist on fully embracing traditions (and much to Matt's dismay) I tend to start decorating our home before Thanksgiving arrives.  This year it has been so enjoyable to have our studio space that I can liven up with decor and get my festive juices flowing!  The season does seem a little bit more ethereal with a little one underfoot.  We've just put up our tree and spent many moments exclaiming at the "Christmas!" as our toddler has so aptly named our tree. I hope these photos inspire you to dress up your own home and start celebrating the season and traditions with those you love!  Happy Holidays from our family to yours!

Our Favorite Holiday Moscow Mule Recipe Just in time for thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is just two days away, and with that we officially kick off the holiday season.  It is no secret that this is my absolute favorite time of year!  I love the excuse to gather with friends and family, the cosiness of warm slippers and snuggling on the couch with my family (all inclusive of two beefcake dogs, a toddler and my husband). This year we are hosting Thanksgiving at our house and we spent time this week digging out all of those old family recipes and planning our spread.

I have to admit I do have a slight obsession with Moscow Mules.  I think it's the ginger.  I LOVE anything with ginger!  This year we'll be offering up a Holiday Mule with some fresh citrusy ingredients and of course cranberries.  The secret ingredient is the scratch made ginger simple syrup.  Very easy and the end result is delicious!  Below I'll share my recipe and I would love to hear more about some of your favorite recipes or traditions in the comments!  Photos - Erica Rose Photography

Holiday Mule

6 oz Ginger Beer (I love Reed's Extra Ginger Brew that can be purchased at Fred Meyer)

2 oz Vodka

4 oz Cranberry Juice

Fresh Ginger Simple Syrup to Taste

Garnish with Orange Slices and lime (squeeze some in to taste), Cranberries and Fresh Mint

Ginger Simple Syrup

8 oz Fresh Ginger Root (peeled and sliced)

2 cups Sugar

2 cups Water

Bring water and sugar to a boil over medium high heat heat.  Add the ginger and bring mixture to a simmer.  Remove from heat and allow to steep for 30-40 minutes.  When it's done strain out the ginger and you have your syrup!  This should keep for 3-4 weeks in an airtight container.

Because Life is an Adventure............

Last weekend marked the beginning of a new chapter in our lives.  We have officially moved into our new studio space and have turned a new leaf!  For years we have dreamt of creating a space that can envelop our sense of a welcoming heart and creative minds.  A private space where we can meet with clients and have all of those personal conversations that need to happen when planning a wedding.  A space that will inspire creativity and passion about each of our events.  A space where we can host workshops and share our love for events and design with others.  For me, it has always been easy to dream.  But boy does it take hard work and sheer determination to build something you can be proud of!  There literally has been blood, sweat and tears.  And here we are, we're taking a giant leap and not looking back.

Before I wrote this post I was looking at some of our very first blog posts that date all the way back to 2012 and realizing how far we've come and how much we've grown!  And the best part of it all is the friends we've made along the way.  Whether it's our families, past clients, vendors or colleagues, we have been so blessed in our relationships.  Our approach is a bit different being a husband and wife team.  When we first started I was scared to tell people that we work together for fear of seeming too "mom and pop."  Our family and our values are at the basis of how we run our business and every decision that we make.  Little did I know that this would end up being one of our biggest assets.  Where one of us lacks, the other fills in.  And when we're in the midst of a fast moving event, we offer each other the sense of calm that only the other can.  Matt is an incredible artist with his hands, his mind and his ability to wholeheartedly care for each couple and event.  I am a dreamer and an organizer by nature with a big heart and I'm a sucker for true love.  Being able to combine our talents, coupled with our love for what we do and one another, has helped us get to an amazing place in our lives.

Looking back, it's important for us to remember that success only comes from very hard work, resilience and a belief in oneself.  But it's also a result of others who believe in you, support you and cheer you on along the way.  So to all of our friends, family, clients and colleagues, thank you for helping us realize a dream!  Please come and help us celebrate!
